"The Mikado" is the story of the son of the Japanese emperor (or Mikado) who returns to his native village after a year spent fleeing from the elderly Katisha, a woman in his father's court who loves him. He comes back to pursue his beloved Yum-Yum, but is is initially forbidden to marry her by her guardian Ko-Ko/5.
